Hibiscus is an erect, evergreen shrub that grows about 2.5–5 m (8–16 ft.) tall and 1.5–3 m (5–10 ft.) wide. The plant has branched taproot and erect, which looks green, cylindrical, and has branched stems.
Leaves are alternate, papery, dark green, broadly or narrowly ovate, 4–9 × 2–5 cm, base rounded or cuneate, margin serrate-dentate, apex acuminate; stipules linear, 5–10 mm long; petiole 0.5–2 cm long. Flowers are solitary, axillary on upper branches, large, simple or double, usually pendulous on 1–8 cm long pedicels.
