A herb company that still lives where the herbs grow
Moolihai means “herb” in Tamil. We grow, gather, dry, mill and pack Ayurvedic and Siddha botanicals in Tamil Nadu, India, and ship them direct to customers in the USA and more than 25 countries. No importer, no wholesaler, no marketplace in between.
Where we started
Siddha medicine is the traditional system of the Tamil country, older than most written records and built on the same foundations as Ayurveda: the five elements, the balance of the body’s constitution, and a pharmacopoeia of hundreds of plants that grow in this landscape. In our villages around Tirunelveli, those plants were never “products”. They were what the grandmother reached for when a child had a fever, what went into the bath water before a wedding, what was dried on the terrace after the harvest.
Moolihai began in 2017 with a simple observation: families abroad were paying high prices for these same herbs, often mislabelled, often old, and usually with no idea which plant or which farm they had come from. We had the plants and the people who knew them. So we started shipping.
How we work
Every product on this site follows the same path.
- Grown or gathered in Tamil Nadu. We work with farms and foragers in the districts where each plant traditionally grows, and we buy whole herbs, not pre-ground powders of unknown origin.
- Sun-dried, then milled in small batches. Drying naturally preserves aroma and colour. Milling close to the time of dispatch means the powder in your pouch was a whole leaf, root or bark not long ago.
- Packed at our own facility. Our packing unit is registered with FSSAI, the Indian food safety authority. Single-herb products contain only that herb. Blends list every ingredient on the label.
- Shipped with tracking. Orders leave Tirunelveli with DHL, UPS or FedEx and a tracking number you can follow door to door.
Why every product carries three names
The same plant is sold under different common names in different countries, and different plants are sometimes sold under the same name. That is how “brahmi” can mean Bacopa monnieri in one shop and Centella asiatica in the next. We label every product with its Latin botanical name, its English name and its Tamil name, so that you can check exactly which species you are buying and match it to what your practitioner or your family actually meant.
