Paramapadham (பரமபதம்) is a Tamil traditional game which is being played from ancient times. The lesson you get from Paramapadham is that life is full of ups and downs. By only with your effort and never give up attitude, you can achieve your goal and glory.
The other meaning that said for Paramapadham in today’s century is that all the good things and thoughts raise the man to the top while the bad thoughts and things put a man down.
Kids know the difference between Good and Bad deeds while playing this game. The game board consists of ladders and snakes. The ladders represent the virtues and the snakes represent vices.
How to Play the Paramapadham/Snake And Ladder
Paramapadham is somewhat the same as Dhayam. In both games, 2 Dhayakattai/Brass dice are being used. The objectives of the games are also similar in that coins start to travel from home to the goal. The one who makes his coin first to the goal is the winner.
The player needs to get 1 (Dhayam) in the dice to start the game. The dhayakattai or brass dice is rolled in a clockwise direction or any other direction based on the decision of all players.
The player rolls the brass dice and mark off the no that starting on the ‘1’ spot on the game board.
All the players get their turn to roll the dice and move the markers. If the dice total makes the marker to reach the bottom of the ladder, then the marker can climb the larger and go to the top from where the game continues.
Likewise, if the marker reaches the face of the snake then the marker goes down to the tail of the snake and needs to continue the game from there.
If the player gets 1, 5, 6, or 12 in dice, he gets another chance to roll the dice. The player has to move his marker for every dice total.
If the player gets ‘6’ in dice three times in a row, he should return to ‘0’ that is the starting point of the board. He can’t move that marker until he gets another ‘6’ on the dice in his turn.
Moral of the game Paramapadham/Snake And Ladder
