Cardamom belongs to the botanical genus Elettaria Cardamomum and is a ginger-like plant, the largest of which can grow up to 12 feet. This herb with erect green shoots produces succulent and dense tubers in its root. The plant has two rows of linear-lance-shaped leaves opposite, the most notable feature being that each is about 2 feet long. The dark green leaves are very long, but the top is soft, and the bottom is heavy.
All of these inflorescences are formed on separate horizontal stems. Many small flowers bloom in loose panicles about 2 feet long; the petals are yellow or white, its veins pink, and its edges yellow. It is about 1 cm to 2 cm long, with elliptical fruits with soft skin and green capsules. Each fruit of this plant contains 15 to 20 reddish-brown seeds, which are very aromatic.
