Description

Ink Nut is also known as bastard myrobalan, grows up to 60 ft in height. It belongs to the family of Combretaceae. The bark of this tree is a dark brown color. The leaves are 3-8 inch long and 2-4 inch width, it is hanging down in the clumps and in an oval shape. The stem of the leaves has two knots at the apical end. The flower of this tree is greenish-yellow in color and grow on long white clusters. The fruits of this tree are 1-2 inches long, it is in an oval shape and the back surface of the fruit has 5 prominent stripes. The fruits are plucked before the seed formation, it is known as hard. These are a dark yellow color. When the fruits are completely ripe is known as a big harad. This tree grows up to 5000 ft above the sea level, it is widely grown in the hilly and forest area. Usually, this tree is found in the lower Himalayan area from Ravi banks to Western Bengal, Assam, and in the forests of high land areas. The native of this tree is Southern Asia, India, and now it is widely grown in China, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka.
